Porter Wright partner Samuel H. Porter received the Mount Carmel Foundation's Chairman's Award, which is given to a current or former board member who has demonstrated outstanding vision and foresight and helped to carry out Mount Carmel's mission. Mr. Porter, who served as the Foundation's first Chair of the Board of Trustees, was honored as part of the Foundation's 25th anniversary celebration.
"I'm humbled by this recognition and grateful for the opportunity I had to help further the Foundation's work," remarked Mr. Porter. "I believe in the Foundation's mission and wish it continued success during its next 25 years."
The Mount Carmel Foundation is the sole fundraising entity for Mount Carmel Health System and is dedicated to funding the health and educational programs and services provided through the System. Through its efforts, the Foundation ensures that everyone who seeks health care at one of the System's facilities receives care regardless of their ability to pay.
Mr. Porter, a fixture in the central Ohio legal community, built his legal practice in the areas of utility, regulatory, and litigation matters and appeared before regulatory agencies and state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. More recently, he has served as an arbitrator in alternative dispute resolution matters around the country, teaches a yearly course at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, and is near the end of a six-year appointment to the Ohio Public Defender Commission, where he currently serves as Chair of the Commission. Mr. Porter also is active in the American Bar Association and other professional organizations. In 2008, he received the Columbus Bar Association's Professionalism award, which recognizes exceptional dedication to the standards of the legal profession as well as demonstrated integrity and humanitarian concern. In 2003, the Ohio State Bar Foundation honored Mr. Porter with the Ritter Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the administration of justice. |
